Intersection capacity models only spit out capacities on the assumption that no crashes occur. This is a very fragile assumption that can be wrong multiple times daily and highly impactful to capacity in reality. Don't be mislead by people overstating what is being modelled. Safety also delivers a reliability benefit.

Once you (a pedestrian) experience LPIs, anything else feels totally bonkers and unsafe. Also, in NYC, bikes can legally go with the walk sign!

Yea, NYC is installing them all over. I read somewhere that the original traffic signals in the 1930s/40s had this type of timing.

They are one of those interventions that you may not realize you need until you experience it, then it feels impossible to go back! Such a no-brainer intervention. Proven, easy to implement, and cost-effective. And yet! Car-bias is strong.
